Rescue At Snake Creek Entrance

On Monday, Skip, Wayne and I set out in Skip's boat to search out some elusive Permit and maybe hook up with a Tarpon or two. However, before heading out, we had to fuel up and because Snake Creek is the closest spot, that's where we headed. At the entrance to the creek, we happened upon a sloop that had run aground for not correctly following the entrance buoys. Seeing their predicament, we offered to pull them off the bar, little did we know at that time these (ahem) intrepid sailors were quite inexperienced and not knot knowledgeable. After some initial confusion, they cast us a line, we secured it to our craft and began the tow, boing, their knot quickly failed and we were off to make a second attempt; after some colorful verbal exchange between the crew of the sailboat and our extremely sound advise we pulled them off into deep water.

Now,  one would think that once the sailboat was free of the clutches of the sand bar, the helmsman would
On the bar
They should have been at The Bar
Confusion abounds AKA Chinese fire drill AKA Cluster F....!
Free and heading straight for us!
I think I can, I think I can
put his craft in neutral and give us time to untie the line from our boat, not, in reality the helmsman steamed toward us full speed ahead and if not for Skips fast reaction to the impending collision,  we would have been impaled by the sailboat's bow. All pictures were taken by Skip.

We eventually got our fuel, went Back Country. With the very best conditions available for spotting Permit, we trolled along a shoal for some time, to no avail. We did ,however, see a couple of large Tarpon, we made a few casts in their direction but they refused to take our bait, we continued on our quest. After a few more minutes, we stopped at "old faithful" and caught a few Mackerel and Sea Trout, enough for dinner, then back to the stalk for Permit.

All things being considered, we had a great day on the Bay, saw some fish, caught some fish and had an adventure. Tomorrow is another day, we'll just have to do it again!
